ROTARY CLUB OF LOS ALTOS TO AWARD $16,500

 IN COMMUNITY SERVICE SCHOLARSHIPS

The Rotary Club of Los Altos is currently accepting applications for its 2008 Community Service Scholarships.  High school seniors who live in Los Altos and/or attend one of the seven eligible secondary schools, as well as Foothill Community College students who plan to continue their education at an accredited post-secondary school or college, are encouraged to apply by the April 9th, 2008 at 5:00 PM deadline.

A primary mission of Rotary is to promote Service Above Self.  The purpose of these annual scholarship awards is to encourage student participation in community service, reward intellectual excellence, and provide needed financial assistance for further education.  Scholarships are $800 for community college-bound applicants $2500 for students at four-year institutions. 

A total of $16,000 is provided by the Los Altos Rotary Endowment Fund.  The Cowan Scholarship for Science and Technology offers an additional $500 scholarship. 

Immediate family members of Rotarians are not eligible for Rotary scholarships.

Application forms may be obtained from the counseling offices of seven area secondary schools, including Alta Vista High, Los Altos High, Mountain View High,  Mountain View Academy, MV/LA Adult Education, Pinewood, and St. Francis, as well as Foothill College.  Application forms can also be downloaded by clicking on the link below.  A teacher recommendation and current academic transcript must accompany the application form.  Awards will be presented to this years winners at a Rotary Club of Los Altos luncheon on Thursday May 15th.
